Choosing the Best Images for Your Tier List
Practical tips for picking, cropping and preparing images that look great in a tier list.
By Tier List Maker Team ·
Images make tier lists instantly readable. A few simple habits will make yours look polished.
Use square images
Each item is displayed as a square tile, and images are cropped to fill it. Square or near-square images avoid awkward crops.
Keep the subject centred
The centre of each image is what survives the crop. Character portraits, album covers and logos work especially well.
Consistency beats quality
Ten images in a matching style look better than ten high-resolution images in different styles. Try to source every image from the same place — official artwork, screenshots, or photos you took yourself.
File size
The tool automatically downsizes uploaded images so many of them can be saved in your browser. You don’t need to resize them beforehand, but very large files will take a moment to process.
Respect copyright
Make sure you’re allowed to use and share the images you add. Your own photos and official press kits are usually safe choices.
Add names
Images are uploaded with their file name as a label. Rename files before uploading — “zelda.png” reads better than “IMG_2041.png”.
